The Chiropractic Federation of Washington is the voice of chiropractic within organized labor. We are affiliated with the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU); our Guild is recognized as OPEIU # 10 representing chiropractors in Washington State.

The many locals of organized labor throughout our state have long supported their workers’ and families’ right to access chiropractic care. We decided that organized labor would be a natural counter balance to the business and insurance lobbies.  The power of organized labor would assist us in our desire for the people of Washington State to have fair treatment and equal access to chiropractic care.

The alliance of the CFW and the Washington State Labor Council (WSLC) has been a mutually productive one. The WSLC has been helpful for our profession in Olympia concerning injured workers and insurance coverage for chiropractic care.  The WSLC has made a positive impact on protecting and advancing our issues and has added to our ability to act on the political front.  The CFW has been active in the development and implementation of WSLC health care policy in Washington State, protecting chiropractic patients now and in the future.

The most important goal of our labor connection is to protect our membership in future dealings with the insurance industry. The agenda of our international affiliate, OPEIU, is to pass legislation to allow independent practitioners such as chiropractors to legally boycott and collectively bargain for fair fee schedules and conditions of our members.  I strongly believe this must happen to protect the livelihood of our profession. We cannot continue to be placed in a “take it or leave it” position, unable to take action, as is the present case.

The CFW works in a specialized area of labor relations and we do not duplicate the functions of our partners, the WSCA and the WCT.   We are aligned with these organizations to protect and advance the chiropractic profession.
